St. Mary's Abbey in York is a spectacular 13th century 350 ft. long gothic skeleton sprawling elegantly over manicured lawns against a backdrop of thick trees. To reaveal the beauty of its architectural structure, I painted a much simpler landscape in the background, with colour and light contrasting against the grey stone, penetrating is many arches and doorways.

The Canadian Railway Hotels ( Fairmont Hotels & Resorts )have long been a fascination for so many Canadians, as a part of our cultural, social and architectural history. Growing up in Edmonton, Alberta, I was particularly taken with the imposing and elegant "castle" on the river bank. When I started my annual exhibition in 1994, I chose the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald for many reasons, but its architectural beauty was key. The hotels are an ongoing part of our personal history (a year later in 1995, we were married there on a magical winter's evening,) and they continue to inspire my love of historic architecture. My "Grand Hotel" series started in 1995 now includes 53 paintings and counting. Morning light sweeping through tall windows of the Confederation Lounge filters through the iron gates, illuminating elegant interior spaces. The giant fresh bouquet, red chaises longues and torchères welcome the viewer into the space. The sun invites one in further, to sit next to windows or walk out onto the patio to look over Edmonton's river valley. It is a landmark in Edmonton, and I'm thrilled to celebrate the landmark of 25 years of holding my exhibitions here.
