The view from the top of Milan Cathedral is breathtaking, with hundreds of spires and a seemingly infinite number of buttresses and gargoyles. It is a feat of engineering and reminds one of a clock in it's precision and workings - much like a machine. Taking six centuries to build, one can only imagine the political and financial machinations involved in its completion. In 2012, the Duomo management launched a campaign offering its 135 gargoyles up for "adoption." Donors who contribute €100,000 or more will have their name engraved under one of the grotesque figures perched on the cathedral's rooftop.
