Venice is one of my favourite places, full of intrigue, beauty, and architectural wonders. In this piece I hoped to relate the feeling of being in a gondola approaching a lavish masquerade ball; the sound of water lapping on the stairs, laughter and music carrying on the night air. Light bounces around the city in unpredictable ways, reflected by water, interrupted by bridges and buildings holding fast together against the sea. Venice has been the subject of many of my paintings and will continue to be a source of inspiration.
