Watching the sunset from Calton Hill over Edinburgh was a highlight of our time in the Ancient city; a tangle of sun-warmed spires reaching up through a lush canopy of trees. The clock tower of the Balmoral Hotel and the dark neo-gothic Scott Monument are prominent landmarks, opulent detail recalling the elegance of the Victorian era. Beyond, whisps of fog roll in from the North Sea over the gently rolling Lothians.
