"Back country pursuits are central to my landscape work. My connection to the natural world started in childhood with outdoor activities with my family, and has since been fueled by backpacking, canoeing, skiing, and ice climbing.
Fleeting and dramatic effects of light are key to my work, conveying a sense of transience, an unrepeatable moment. I am interested in the relationship between the permanence of the land and the impermanence of weather and light conditions, how that relationship effects perception and experience, and ultimately, how to communicate that in paint."
